Somehow I don't think the AWOS was to blame. While it may have been
malfuntioning, I think that any pilot that is eligible to hold a medical
certificate can tell the difference between 1/2 mile and 10 miles. If the
AWOS is re****ting 10 miles and you can't see the end of the runway because
of fog, are you still gonna rely on the AWOS? Remember, this was a TAKEOFF
accident.
(On a side note, If it was re****ting greater than 10 nm, it was definitely
malfunctioning because it should be re****ting in reference to statute
miles).
