Kuala Lumpur International Air****t in Malaysia was voted world's Best
Air****t for two consecutive years, 2005 -2006. It has one of the best
automated baggage handling systems in the world. All arriving baggage
is unloaded in the baggage sorting building and is then conveyed to
the baggage reclaim hall by a separate system. CCTV cameras are fixed
every 50 meters.
Though the primary task of baggage is to protect its contents from
damage, passengers are experiencing so much damage of their checked
baggage in KLIA with many valuable items being stolen. Passengers face
the difficulty of carrying all the valuable items in their carry-on
baggage; most of the time they are forced to put some of the valuables
in the checked baggage.
I travel in MH (Malaysia Airlines) quite frequently. My last trip was
on 31st Jan 2008 from Male' Maldives to Kuala Lumpur arrived 1st Feb
2008 with my daughter and two relatives. Two out of Four suitcases
were damaged and items like Digital Camera, battery charges,
toiletries and cosmetics were stolen. Immediately I called Malaysia
Airlines Baggage Unit and re****ted the case. They gave me a reference
number DPRKULMH34595 and asked to call the next day. When I called
they informed me that there was hardly anything they could do about
this matter. I must claim under my travel insurance. The funny part is
they were not in a position to investigate this with the help of their
CCTV footage for the benefit of their valuable customers. I have come
to know that many of my friends experienced same problems in KLIA..
Is there any solution to this?
