Must not fly Northworst much. A number of times I've been unable to get 
an advance seat assignment while the seat map showed open seats being 
held for elite frequent fliers. 24 hours in advance some open up for the 
plebes willing to pay an extra charge to reserve one of these "special" 
seats (exit rows, for example). But some remain blocked until arrival at 
the air****t. And this is becoming more common as they compress their 
schedules to fewer flights on smaller aircraft.
