Mechanical glitch leads to stop at Stewart
Rescue teams ready, but not needed

A Gulfstream IV makes an emergency landing Thursday at Stewart
International Air****t in New Windsor.
NEW WINDSOR -- A private jet made a successful emergency landing Thursday
morning at Stewart International Air****t when its forward landing gear
malfunctioned.
No one was hurt, said Kiran Jain, general manager of marketing and
spokeswoman for Stewart.
The plane, a Gulfstream IV, was operated by NetJets, a major company that
sells shares of planes mostly to cor****ate users. The plane was coming
from Helsinki, Finland, to the Teterboro Air****t in New Jersey when its
crew discovered trouble with the landing gear.
A decision was made to divert to Stewart because a tenant at Stewart,
Rifton Aviation, services jets like the 13-seater Gulfstream, while the
11,818-foot main runway offers extra room.
''We were all lined up like in an emergency,'' Jain said. ''The rescue
team from Air National Guard, the paramedics, everything was there on the
runway. Luckily, the flight made it in, no injuries. It landed without
incident.''
Air guard participated
Crash-rescue and firefighting service at Stewart is provided by the New
York Air National Guard, which has a base there.
The plane first made a slow, close fly-by to enable ground observers to
look at the landing gear. A state police helicopter also flew close to
the plane to look.
A crew of three was on board the NetJets plane, but no passengers.
No NetJets spokesman could be reached Thursday.
