Garmin 430/530 copy protection Q

by nobody@[EMAIL PROTECTED] May 28, 2008 at 12:19 PM

How does this work?

Do they store a key on the flash card which you enter into the Garmin
website when you do a download, and the DL then is encrypted with that
key? That is how Honeywell work, with some gps's anyway.

Or is the download always free and you enter a key when you want to
program the flash cartridge?

Is the key stored on the flash cartridge, or in the GPS itself?

What stops somebody simply duplicating the flash cartridges?

How are the cartridges programmed? Is it some specially hacked writer?

Are they CF, or some special size?
