Not sure you realize what a zoo it really was around NO in the first few
days after Katrina. I have many friends in the area who I stay in touch
with but don't visit due to a personal, um, "history" with the NO police.
:)
Total anarchy.
The cops that did show up for duty, and I believe that was only about
2/3 of the force, were more concerned for their own safety than anything
else. The National Guard was as useless as tits on a bull.
For the most part, nobody gave a ****.
If you wanted to go in to rescue friends and relatives, nobody stopped
you, but they, sure as hell, weren't going to help, either.
I know a girl whose 70+ mother refused to leave her home in St Bernard.
After many calls to try to get someone to look for her, she was told that
they "don't have time to recover bodies". Her mother, BTW, was rescued
after living in the attic with her 2 dogs for 2 weeks. I heard she was in
a REAL
foul mood because she ran out of cigarettes after a week and a half.

I think he went home to get Ma Deuce. :)
